Many provincial dances have developed throughout the centuries reflecting the traditions and legends which exist in each individual region of Korea. One of the most popular regional dances of the southern section of Korea is the Mask Dance. Habitually, when a cultural festival is celebrated in the region, the spectacular Mask Dance is included. This dance typifies the humor of life and is animated and fast in tempo, with boisterous, unrestrained movements and brightly colored costumes. Masks of various kinds are made according to distinct ancient Korean traditions.
